TWNIC 2019 Annual Report

The Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC) has been registering domain names, issuing IP addresses, engaging in international network societies, since 2019, we have incorporated the Taiwan Computer Emergency Response Team/Coordination Center (TWCERT/CC), and providing consultation and coordination services to enhance overall information security in Taiwan.

Important Announcement and Updates due to the COVID-19

The 2nd ICANN APAC-TWNIC Engagement Forum with 34th TWNIC Open Policy Meeting will defer to the second half of 2020 due to the urgent COVID-19 situation in the world. This decision was made by the Event collaborative organizations, ICANN APAC, APNIC and TWNIC based on the COVID-19 outbreak, considered a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), China remains a high-risk country at this time. Meanwhile, there still are cases elsewhere, the global risk is not to be underestimated. Under such a severe situation of COVID-19 outbreak, Taiwan Authority has announced publicly restrictions to China/Hong Kong/ Macao travelers entering Taiwan according to the Public Announcement at

that will influence the Event attendees who are from the restricted region entering Taiwan.

As we know, there are cases in at least 26 countries that could be potential of bringing the virus via traveling and could also be accidental exposure of the virus to the Event attendees, speakers, and staff. We stand for our social responsibility for the global Internet Community to decide deferring to the second half of 2020 and hope to have your understanding.

The ICANN APAC-TWNIC Engagement Forum is a joint effort of the two Internet organizations to bring the stakeholders of the Internet together with the local and international communities to share and discuss the latest topics on Internet policies, domain name, IP address allocation, and cybersecurity. It is the best chance to meet, discuss and share your opinions on the latest issues and know the stakeholders in Taiwan.

It is also our goal to establish a platform for the communities to ignite the discussions from a variety of aspects of stakeholders and to keep pace with dynamic technologies and rapid innovation. With our goal “One World. One Internet.”, facilitating we work together, discuss together, connect together under the global community as One.

Adjustment of the WHOIS service in response to the implementation of GDPR

In response to the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by the European Union (EU), starting from April 25 of 2018, the Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC) may make certain necessary masking adjustments to the results of the WHOIS inquiries regarding EU registrants.

EU registrants may contact TWNIC if the registrant wishes to restore the display of its WHOIS information back to the original format. Latest information on TWINIC’s WHOIS service will be made available at

2017 Taiwan Wireless Internet Usage Survey Explored the Digital Society Development in Taiwan

The lifestyle of being constantly connected to the Internet has sped up the development of a digital society. To further understand digital society development in Taiwan, the research topic of 2017 Taiwan Wireless Internet Usage Survey was specifically set as “Explore the Relationship between the Usage of Wireless Internet and the Development of Digitalized Society in Taiwan.”

2017 Taiwan Internet Forum on Internet Trends
